06/16/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Daniel is an athletic and hard working 2020 Catching prospect. Behind the dish, Daniel presents a low and quiet target. He works to the ball and has good hands on balls in the strike zone. He does a great job blocking and anticipates balls in the dirt. When throwing, he has a controlled exchange but needs to use his lower half, and quicken his release. Building arm strength will help lower his release times. At the plate, Daniel starts in a narrow stance and gets his front foot down on time. He rotates his lower half and hits the ball to all fields. He needs to continue load his hands back into the drive position, to hunt the fastball, and creates backside rotation with his lower half. Daniel will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/04/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Vinton (Roanoke), VA Daniel continues to shine on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.12. Behind the plate, pop times continue to drop as he threw his lowest time of 2.29 with accuracy on his throws. Time will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He displays a soft glove and sticks balls well in the zone but needs to quieten his body through the receiving process. He uses his body through the blocking process but needs to work to get his body down sooner and improve his lateral movement. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and he has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Lower half works well through the swing and he shows a solid feel for the barrel, flashing gap-to-gap pop.

08/02/2018 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Daniel continues to show improvements in his baseball tools. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.30 as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a solid setup and presents a low target. He uses his body through the blocking process but needs to work on getting down quicker. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a solid team player.

05/20/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Henrico (Richmond), VA Daniel continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a squared setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone through a line drive approach. With flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. Pop times showed in the 2.40 range. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He did show at 2B, displaying a low approach. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Feet are active but needs to play through balls more with his body.

04/29/2018 - College PREP - Charlottesville, VA Daniel is a tall, athletic catcher who will graduate in 2020. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed a range of 2.38-2.50 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he tracks balls well through the receiving process but will benefit by presenting a lower target. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to get down sooner to center balls out front. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. Hands are loose and work to and through the baseball, creating extension. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, Daniel has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
