08/11/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Kannapolis (Charlotte), NC Daniel continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, he has a good overall delivery, a good arm action, and he rotates his hips through to his target. Fastball showed a range of 79-80 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an open setup. He has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 1B, feet are active as he shows proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

08/12/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Kannapolis (Charlotte), NC Daniel continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying solid hitting abilities with outstanding power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft but needs to present more out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls through a low approach. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. On the mound, delivery is sound and repeatable allowing his arm action to work well to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 77-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength.

06/16/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Daniel is a talented 1B/RHP prospect who has a tall, long build. In the field, Daniel plays with quick footwork and makes the routine plays. He fields the ball in a stiff position and funnels it to the center of his body. Daniel has a clean exchange leading into a long arm action. His throws are consistent with good carry across the diamond. Daniel does a nice job picking baseballs in the dirt at 1B. Offensively, Daniel has an open setup with a centered balance. He maintains quiet actions with a still head. Daniel has a short, square stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. He has an on-plane swing path and stays balanced. Daniel is a contact type hitter who has the ability to drive the ball to the opposite field. On the mound, Daniel has a balanced delivery throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has a stiff arm action and can benefit from extending through his release. Daniel has a controlled landing with the proper stride length. He pitches with good tempo and fields his position. Overall, Daniel is a well-rounded prospect who has a versatile skill set.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
