Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Daniel is a talented 1B/RHP prospect who has a tall, long build. In the field, Daniel plays with quick footwork and makes the routine plays. He fields the ball in a stiff position and funnels it to the center of his body. Daniel has a clean exchange leading into a long arm action. His throws are consistent with good carry across the diamond. Daniel does a nice job picking baseballs in the dirt at 1B. Offensively, Daniel has an open setup with a centered balance. He maintains quiet actions with a still head. Daniel has a short, square stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. He has an on-plane swing path and stays balanced. Daniel is a contact type hitter who has the ability to drive the ball to the opposite field. On the mound, Daniel has a balanced delivery throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has a stiff arm action and can benefit from extending through his release. Daniel has a controlled landing with the proper stride length. He pitches with good tempo and fields his position. Overall, Daniel is a well-rounded prospect who has a versatile skill set.

08/12/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Charlotte, NC Daniel continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying solid hitting abilities with outstanding power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft but needs to present more out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls through a low approach. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. On the mound, delivery is sound and repeatable allowing his arm action to work well to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 77-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
