Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Daniel is a projectile two way player in the 2019 class. He is the prototypical athlete wanted at the SS position. Explosive lower half and length allows him to make all the plays, has very good range and smooth hands. Offensively, he is very balanced and can sting the ball if he times it well, showed consistent hard contact regardless of outcome. Very heads up and aggressive runner will earn extra bases and pressure defenses with his ability to take control on the base paths. On the mound, Daniel has two pitches he uses, a FB with some natural movement coming from his Low 3/4 arm slot (76-79mph), and a very good Slider (66-70mph) that breaks late and sharply into the strike zone. A can do it all type of player, his versatility and athleticism should bode well for Daniel moving forward.

07/28/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Daniel continues to show a promising future on the diamond. In the MIF, he displays quick / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around and plays through balls with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well to both sides and covers a lot of ground. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with life, accuracy, and on line carry across the diamond. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing, works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields, and shows a solid feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 76-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

06/11/2017 - College PREP - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Daniel is a talented athlete who continues to progress on the diamond. At SS, he shows active prep with fluid actions as he is aggressive to come and get the GB. Backhand play is smooth with a quick transfer/exchange to throw. At the plate, this righty takes a hack and barrels the ball up with pop. He connects with strength and drives through to extension, creating good backspin with carry on balls hit into the gaps. On the mound, he remains athletic and repeats his delivery well. FB now tops out at 79 mph while showing slight arm side run. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with good action. He finishes out over his front side and repeats well. Only a 2019 grad - Powell is a projectable 2-way player who has upside.

08/04/2016 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown Daniel is a lean, athletic SS/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.13. At SS, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays fluid / smooth actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through a low approach while presenting glove well out front. He moves well laterally, flashing range in the MIF. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an uphill swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing the whole field, gap to gap. He has power potential with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 76-77 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. He was one of the top players at the event. With 3 years to further develop, Daniel has a good upside with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
