07/12/2009 - Team One South 2009 Daniel continues to show steady improvement in his baseball abilities. He showed his best pop times to date at 2.00 - 2.10 through a plus transfer and exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. His throws display life, carry, and accuracy into the target. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved to near above average with solid average power through a balanced approach. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball, generating bat speed.

01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Daniel is a thin player who should fill out nicely. Behind the dish, Daniel has a strong arm and quick feet. He gets down quickly when blocking balls in the dirt and he receives the ball with soft hands. He is aware of what is going on in the game and he is a leader on the field. At the plate, Daniel has a line drive swing with a little pop to the pull side. He stays through the ball and he is balanced. As he learns to adjust to off speed pitches, he should become a force both offensively and defensively.

11/02/2008 - College PREP - Tampa, FL Daniel is a young catcher with a thick looking body that is suited for the position. Arm strength is well above average displaying life, carry, and accuracy into his target. Foot speed is solid as he gains ground and he shows a quick transfer and exchange in getting rid of the baseball. He would benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength and lower pop times. Blocking and receiving skills are above average through a solid set up and stance. At the plate, Torres has solid average ability with slightly average power. He shows solid balance throughout his swing and loads up well. He keeps the barrel through the baseball at contact displaying good extension. Swing path does get long and loses pitches on the outer half of the plate. Power numbers will increase as he learns to utilize the lower half more efficiently through the swing. Daniel will catch the eyes of the college coaches with his ability to catch and throw. With 2 years to further develop, he has potential to be solid in all areas with work.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
