Valerio showed well defensively at the Pre-Season All America event in Arizona. He has an accurate arm with carry to his ball. He displayed active feet and athletic turns on double plays. His hands are too deep in his fielding position and he should present his glove more during approach. In game-play, he made a great play on a slow roller. Offensively, Daniel has an open stance and a short stride. His swing path matches the plane of the pitch well. He should work on getting full rotation in his lower half to maximize his power. During game-play, Daniel had a heads-up base running play by taking an extra base on a throw to second.

12/17/2011 - Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Commuter)
Daniel has very good pre swing movements, and has a very good swing as well just tends to get "armsy" at times. Daniel's stride and load is very good and he also displays great hip coil which is a difficult movement for younger hitters, but this pre swing movement allows the body to create tension which leads to a strong powerful swing. Daniel also displays a very good setup and good rhythm before his swing as well as during the swing, allowing the swing to happen naturally. The main thing that Daniel needs to work on is the connection between his hands and the rest of his body, he tends to drop his hands, and get loopy, causing him to pull the bat with his arms. This also is causing his swing plane to get steep at times, which causes him to hit inside or around the ball instead of hitting behind the baseball. The one thing he needs to focus on when working on the swing is not letting his hands move without his shoulder, having the thought shoulder and hand connection will let his hands stay back and not leak out ahead of his body.
01/14/2011 - Pirate City Spring Training - 2011
Valerio showed similar abilities as we had previously seen at UA 15U Winter Classic. He shows good pre-pitch setup and works to get around balls to play through. Glove action is late and deep, causing the ball to dictate play. In the OF, he needs to work on taking proper routes / angles to track down balls. Throws are accurate as he will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in developing more carry. Offensively, he shows a balanced approach and makes hard contact to the pull side due to long swing path. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing.
12/27/2010 - UA 15U Winter Classic - 2010
Daniel showed solid improvements in his overall game during his time at the UA Winter Classic. At 2nd base, Dan reads the ball off the bat and he moves well laterally. He stays square to his target, attacks the ball aggressively, and he makes the routine plays. Dan has a decent arm with some accuracy to his target. Defensive grades can get better if Dan can field the ball further out in front of his body, quicken his feet, and add arm strength. At the plate, Dan improved both his hitting and power grades from 32 to 38 and 30 to 38. He is an aggressive hitter who stays inside the ball well and who can work it to the opposite field. Dan has a controlled stride, decent hip turn, and he swings a level bat. Offensive tool grades can continue to get better if Dan can improve his barrel accuracy, shorten his swing, and keep his head on the ball.
12/04/2010 - Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Commuter)
Dan is a young (2014) RHH that displays good mechanics at the plate. He shows a solid setup with upper and lower halves staying connected and working well through the swing. Barrel accuracy is a plus as he gets his body into a strong launch position, allowing his quick hands to work directly to the baseball. He will benefit by keeping hands through the ball at point of contact to create extension. With 4 years to further develop, Valerio has a lot of potential with time and room to improve.
