06/14/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Florida This athletic LHH MIF continues to impress. A leadoff type - hands are quick as he squares the ball up consistently driving it on a line. A threat to steal once on base - Baker has tremendous speed (now at 6.67). Defensively, he takes a quick first step and has plus lateral range. He creates angles around the GB with fluid actions. DP turns are quick with zip on his throws. Darren has a ton of upside and possesses the skill-set that will play at a very high level.

04/17/2016 - College PREP - Kentfield (San Francisco), CA Darren continues to impress on the diamond. This leadoff type of hitter, steps into the box looking to swing it. He has fluid rhythm with quick hands that whip the barrel with speed. He hits hard line-drives consistently to all parts of the field and scoots out of the box and down the 1B with speed. At SS, Baker has fluid actions working from right to left. Hands are soft/sure as he has a smooth transfer to throw and fires strong/accurate throws across the diamond. Darren is an athletic MIF prospect who you'll want to keep an eye on.

02/21/2016 - College PREP - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Baker continues to shine on the diamond. This athletic LHH MIF prospect is fun to watch. Defensively, he moves quickly/fluidly from right to left around and through the GB. He has plus lateral range making the tough plays to his right and left look easy. At the plate, this lefty shows a balanced setup with good hand separation getting loaded with strong leverage. He whips the barrel to and through the zone with authority and squares it up. The ball explodes off of his barrel as he drives it to the deep parts of the park. Darren has the tools that will translate well into a high level of play.

06/27/2013 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Darren is an athletic middle infielder/outfielder with the skills to play anywhere on the field. Defensively both in the outfield and infield Darren is fluid with sound footwork and good range. His glove skills and arm action are excellent and he will continue to get better as he matures. Darren also showed potential on the mound with a easy loose arm action and good rhythm. His ball has life out of his hand with some late run to his pitches. Offensively Darren is an advanced hitter for his age using the whole field with great balance, quick hands and smooth stroke. He has line drive power with gap to gap potential as he gets bigger and stronger. Darren is a player to keep an eye on in the future with his strong skill set and athleticism. He is very coachable, always hustles and is a team player, intangibles that any coach would want on his team.

04/21/2013 - College PREP - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Darren is a young athletic two-way player that is currently in 8th grade. In the Outfield, he shows a loose arm action with accurate throws. He shows smooth actions and the ability to judge the ball in the air well. Darren shows that he understands the proper angles to the ball working behind and through. Continue to focus on being aggressive on ground balls. In the infield, Darren shows loose actions with active feet, square fielding position, and a clean exchange. He shows good glove actions, works around and plays through the ball. Darren will need to work on his double play feeds, making sure he is staying low and not popping up when throwing. Overall fielding grades will continue to improve as he develops quicker foot speed. Offensively, Darren shows a fluid swing with excellent rhythm. He displays the ability to use the entire field with a good load and feel for the barrel. With 4 years before graduating high school, Darren is a special player and should continue to improve as he physically matures.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
