12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Darren is an athletic and talented Catching prospect that was eager to learn. He is a high energy player and commands the field from behind the plate. When receiving, Darren starts in an athletic stance, he presents a low/early target, and works behind the ball. When blocking, he needs to continue to anticipate the ball in the dirt and leading with his glove will improve his ability to be on time. When throwing, he replaces his feet. He needs to continue to create momentum into the ball, exchange the ball in front of his chest, and gain ground. At the plate, Darren starts in an athletic stance, he has rhythm in his load, and rotates his lower half. He has a middle approach but needs to continue to rotate his core and attack the inside part of the ball. Darren was very coachable and we hope to see his progress in the future.

09/01/2019 - College PREP - Hooksett, NH Darren is a muscular, athletic C/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 60 time of 7.30. In the OF, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Glove action is soft /sure and presents well out front. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves and he increases foot quickness. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.25 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a squared setup and sticks ball in zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to get body down sooner. At the plate he continues to shine through a tall, athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Darren has a ton of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
