11/03/2018 - Mid-Atlantic Regional Pitching and Catching Weekend (Ages 14-18) Darren is an athletic and talented pitching prospect that made several adjustments throughout the Mid Atlantic Regional Pitching and Catching Weekend. On the bump, Darren gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and has a controlled landing. He needs to continue to have a loose arm action and work over the front side. He keeps his eyes on his target and rotates his hips toward the plate. Continuing to work north to south and riding his back leg toward the plate will help him pound the bottom part of the strike zone. He has good movement on the fastball but developing a secondary pitch such as a changeup will allow him to work off the fastball more efficiently. Darren is very coachable and a hard worker. He will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

10/13/2018 - Mid-Atlantic Regional Hitting Weekend (Ages 14-18) Darren is a talented prospect that worked hard and made several adjustments during the Mid-Atlantic Hitting Camp. Darren starts in a squared stance, has loose hands, and good pre-pitch rhythm. He loads his hands back into the drive position, gets his front foot down on time, and creates backside rotation in his lower half. Hes a line drive hitter and keeps a middle approach. Darren needs to continue to keep a quiet head and attacking the inside part of the ball. That will help him to stay balanced throughout contact. Darren will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

10/07/2017 - FDI Pitching and Catching Accelerated Training Weekend (12-14) Darren is a RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the FDI Pitching and Catching Accelerated Training Weekend. On the mound, this righty gets into a good rhythm and works to control all of his pitches in the zone. He shows a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 63mph with good sinking action. Curveball ranges from 49-53mph with 10-4 break. Knuckleball sits from 50-51mph. Slider ranges from 50-51mph. Darren can improve as a pitcher by separating his hands earlier in his motion and by loosening his arm action. With five more years to develop, Darren has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the mound.

09/23/2017 - FDI Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (12-14) Darren is a young player who worked on his hitting skills during his time at the Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and works to barrel up the baseball. He finishes with a firm front side in his lower half and produces solid contact. Darren can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half through the zone. With five more years to develop, Darren has the time and potential to further progress his skills at the plate.

07/07/2017 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Darren continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities. At 3B, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and squares up well with his body. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 52-56 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on the pitch. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound.

06/20/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Bridgeport, CT Darren is a 3B/RHP who will graduate in 2022. Defensively at 3B, he shows efficient footwork as he fields the ball well from his glove side. He makes strong throws across the diamond and tries to play through the ball towards his target. On the mound, this righty gathers over the rubber with good tempo. He delivers a 3-pitch mix from a 3/4 arm slot as he stays directional towards home plate. With the bat, Darren is a great contact hitter. He takes aggressive hacks through the zone as he looks to drive the pitch back up through the middle of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

1. Lateral quickness
2. Develop soft hands
3. Clean exchange to throw
1. Stronger frontside
2. Lower 1/2 drive off rubber
3. Arm strength (long toss)
1. Develop a load
2. Work on timing
3. Improve bat speed

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
