12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Darren continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.30. Feet are aggressive in working in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength. He shows a solid setup and soft glove action, sticking balls in the zone well. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, he shows a tall / open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He tracks the ball well and makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

11/12/2017 - College PREP - Davie, FL Darren is a compact, solid 2020 catching prospect who shows polish behind the plate. He has quick twitch actions and good balance behind the plate to block everything in the dirt to center and recover quickly. He looks the ball in to receive with a strong wrist and stick pitches in the zone for strikes. His feet are quick as he exchanges to throw accurately down to second. At the plate, he shows a square setup with fluid actions to load and launch. He has feel for the strike zone and has a patient approach, tracking the ball well while looking for something to drive. Shortening his swing will allow him to cover the whole zone and spray hits to all fields. Darren is an intriguing prospect we look forward to watching more of.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
