Official Scouting Report

  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

06/16/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Tacoma, WA Darren is a strong 3B/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. At 3B, Darren shows efficient footwork and attacks the ball aggressively. He gets into a square position and fields the ball with a firm glove. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistent to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting back into his load and hits against a strong front side. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to solid contact and gap to gap power. On the mound, Darren gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. Darren shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 79mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 63-67mph with sharp 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 69-70mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Overall, Darren is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

10/24/2018 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Darren is a coachable 3B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the SoCal Classic. In the field, Darren takes good angles to the ball and fields with his hands out in front of his body. He throws from a 3/4 angle and keeps his throws consistently on-line to his target. Darren can improve defensively by making a quicker exchange. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and is smooth getting into his load. He hits from a strong front side and makes solid contact. Taking a level swing to the ball can help Darren improve as a hitter. On the mound, Darren gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He stays inline towards the plate and is controlled in his landing. Darren shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 69mph. Breaking ball sits from 56-58mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 55-59mph with sinking action. Darren can improve as a pitcher by loosening his arm action. With three more years to develop, Darren has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
