12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Darren is a fundamentally sound athlete who showed well during his time at the Winter Classic. At SS, he is a smooth / fluid fielder with hands / feet working well together as he plays through the ball toward his target. Glove action is sure as he presents well out front. He has a quick exchange with accurate throws across the diamond. Offensively, he has fluid rhythm to load and waits for his pitch. He works on time and uses his lower half well through a short / direct swing path. Hands are quick and work inside the ball as he utilizes all fields through a line drive type swing path. He engages his lower half well and shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off of his bat when centered. At the event, he was 3 for 8 with 3 singles. On the mound, fastball showed in the mid 60 range. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He stays directional and repeats his delivery well. He attacks the zone - challenging hitters to swing the bat. With 5 years to further develop, Darren has skills with still time to progress and physically mature (get stronger).

10/04/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Trenton, NJ Darren is a talented 2-way player as a RHP/SS. With the bat, this righty shows a square/athletic setup with rhythm to load. Barrel delivery is quick to and through the zone as he connects and extends well through the finish. At SS, Darren has active pre-pitch footwork as he's ready to go right or left. He works around the GB, is sure handed and has a clean exchange to throw. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He keeps his eyes on the target, stays directional and repeats his delivery well. FB ranges from 53-56 mph while breaking ball has 11/5 shape with loose spin. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
