12/11/2022 - National Showcase - San Antonio, TX Austin is a C/1B who will graduate in 2023. Tall frame athletic build with strong lower half and strength present. Behind the dish, he works to center the baseball and presents a low target with some pocket awareness. He works around the baseball and gains ground towards second base with good direction. Throws from a high 3/4 release point, with a short arm stroke in back, and has an arm velocity up to 84mph and a best pop time of 2.35 seconds. At 1B, he works to center the baseball and keep ball in front of him. He fields from an athletic/low fielding position with hands out front and a low funnel. Made accurate and on-line throws to second base. At the plate, he hits from an athletic and closed stance. Natural juice in swing and he doesn't get cheated. Showed a good bat angle at contact as he hit balls hard to the pull side with a bat exit velocity up to 80mph. With another season of development, we foresee Austin having a bright future on the baseball field.

07/16/2022 - Baseball Factory National World Series at IMG Academy- Session 1 (HS) Austin is a lefthanded hitting catcher in the 2023 class. Scouts raved about his character and talked about his improvements in a short period of time. Called him “a great teammate and pleasure to work with”. Behind the plate, he has a relaxed stance and tracks the baseball well. He replaces his feet well on his throws. Releases from a high ¾ slot and gets the ball to the base. Feeds are strong and with a transfer deeper, his pops will improve. Has solid form on his blocking. At the plate, he is aggressive on balls in the zone. He begins from a tall and squared position. Has a small and simple load and his stride is soft. He is on-time with the pitch and gets his lower half through. Bat speed is explosive and generates hard, consistent contact. Produces line drive power to the gaps with more in the tank. Overall, Austin is a solid player who can contribute to a college roster.

01/17/2022 - All-In Membership - San Antonio, TX Austin is a solid, athletic, 2-way player who plays 1B and catcher. In the INF, Austin has active feet, athletic actions, and firm hands. He has good pre-pitch actions, he moves well around the bag, and his exchange is clean with a short/accurate arm to his target. If Austin can quicken footwork and soften his glove, solid defensive skills will get even better. Behind the plate, Austin sits in well, footwork is active, and he presents his glove well. He has a firm wrist, tucks his chin to block, and throws accurately to 2nd base. Pop times were as low as 2.28 seconds. Abilities behind the plate can improve if Austin can avoid stabbing at the ball, sit in lower, and quicken his release. At the plate, Austin has a square/athletic stance, a rhythmic swing, and fast bat speed. He has good bat whip, he swings on plane, and he makes solid/level contact gap to gap. A more direct barrel at times and a better finish will help improve already solid hitting numbers.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
