Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

05/18/2014 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Embs continues to show as a RHP/3B but currently projects best at 3B for the next level where he has improved his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now showing well above average hitting/power numbers through a balanced setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat. At 3B, he works to square balls up and shows clean hands. He moves well laterally and shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 73-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength and throws more strikes. Embs has a bright future on and especially off the field with his academic success.

08/05/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 David is a competitive team player who shows good hustle. On the mound, David showed a quick tempo, a still head, and he stays around the plate with his pitches. At 3B, David has good pre-pitch actions, soft hands, and quick feet. He moves well laterally and throws with life and accuracy to his target. At the plate, David has an athletic base, he gets the barrel through the zone and has a firm lower 1/2.

06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 David worked out at both 3B and on the mound during his time in Omaha. Defensively, David has a solid, glove, active feet, and he keeps the ball in front. He follows his throws, and delivers the ball with accuracy to his target. On the mound, David keeps his eyes on target, he works to his balance point well, and he lands in a square position. At the plate, David is a patient hitter with good hands, and solid balance. He swings a level bat and makes consistent contact.

05/19/2013 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX David is a 2015 RHP/3B with a 5'11"/165 lbs frame. At the hot corner, he has playable footwork - getting around balls, and works low to high. On the mound, his free arm action with good extension makes him a strike thrower with his 4 pitches. Embs fastball topped out at 78 MPH and his slider proved to be the best off-speed pitch with sharp break. Offensively, he is consistent with contact, has good extension and spray ability. He has simple actions and is compact in his swing path. Overall, David is a promising young player that projects well in either spot at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
