Official Scouting Report

  • OFPosition Projection

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 David showed similar skills at the UA Preseason All-America as he did back in 10/09. He is a lean, athletic player who improved his home to 1st time to 4.20. In the OF, David has a good 1st step, and takes appropriate routes to the baseball. His arm grade improved from 42 to 45, and his throws are accurate and online. David makes good use of the hops, and with a quicker exchange, looser actions, and by playing through the baseball, defensive skills can improve. Offensively, David has good balance and bat speed. He has good hand-eye coordination and can really work the pitcher for a solid at bat. A softer stride, more direct hands, and more extension to the ball, will all help hitting and power numbers further improve.

10/25/2009 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA David continues to show steady improvement with his baseball abilities. In the OF, fielded ground balls on proper side as he played thru it aggressively. He took decent angles to get to balls that were in gap. Would like to see him get behind fly balls so he can generate momentum towards target and have quick release. Took a good crow hop as throws were accurate with good life and carry on it. Stringent long toss program will help improve velocity. At the plate, demonstrated a level swing thru hitting zone that flashed good pop as he centered ball. Proper setup allows him to keep front-side closed and keep barrel in hitting zone longer. As he lets ball travel, he will be able to drive balls to all fields with some pop.

06/20/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2 David is an OF with a tall, thin, and athletic looking body that shows future projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.05 60 time. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes and angles in tracking down balls in the OF, displaying range. Defensive abilities are near above average as his hands and feet work well together. Arm strength is slightly above average and he must get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry on throws. At the plate is where Fulton really shines displaying above average abilities with solid average power. He works to keep hands inside the baseball, utilizing all fields showing a solid feel for the barrel. Base running skills are a plus as he knows how to get around the bases. He was 3 for 8 with a 3B and inside the park HR at the event. David has the makings to be a special type player at the next level and will get a lot of attention from the collegiate coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
