08/05/2019 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) David is an athletic 2021 utility prospect that was eager to learn and made several adjustments throughout the week. Behind the dish, David presents a low target but needs to be quieter with his primary stance. When blocking, he gets in front of the ball but needs to continue to lead with his glove and control the ball with his chest. When throwing, David needs to continue to gain ground, have a clean exchange, and quicken his release. At the plate, David starts in an open stance, he has good rhythm in his load, and hunts the fastball. He shows a pull side approach but keeps the barrel inside the ball. At 2B, David fields the ball in front of him body and funnels the ball into his body. He makes the routine play and has good energy at the position. David will continue to improve with experience and we hop to see his progress in the future.

05/05/2019 - College PREP - Bryan (College Station), TX David is a SS/C prospect who will graduate in 2021. In the field, David shows efficient footwork and covers ground well. He gets into a low position and fields with soft hands out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistently on-line to his target. Taking a better prep step can help David improve as a SS. Behind the plate, David sits in a low stance and moves efficiently to block. He presents a good target to the pitcher and makes a clean exchange, working to keep his throws accurate to the 2B bag. Setting up square to the pitcher can help David improve as a C. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and maintains center balance. He is fluid getting back into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing and makes consistent contact. Taking a more controlled stride can help David improve as a hitter. With two more years to develop, David has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

04/08/2018 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX David is lean C/2B who will graduate in 2021. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.20 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a squared setup and sticks ball in zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner to improve grade. At 2B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork but needs to play through balls more with his body. Glove action is soft /sure and he presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 3 years to further develop, David has abilities with a lot of room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
