10/15/2008 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic - 2008
Huntzinger showed good barrel accuracy and some opposite field power at the plate. He did a good job of letting the ball travel, and then extending his arms through contact. Can work to get stronger, has a good foundation to build on as a hitter. In the outfield, he played hard and showed an accurate arm. Can improve his footwork and overall quickness. On the mound, he topped at 83 with his fastball and showed a tight spinning 10 to 4 shaped breaking ball. His arm worked well and his delivery had good direction and tempo. Can work to get his arm and lower half in better synch, starting to develop better front side pull will help. Overall, has good two-way potential at the college level. Ran 7.28 in the 60-yard dash, very slightly off what we saw from him previously.
08/23/2008 - ACR-E - California - 3
David improved his 60 time and velocity. Plays through the ball well in the outfield, stays low and has a quick release. Also plays through fly balls. On the mound, topped out at 86 MPH with movement. His change-up is his best off-speed pitch, has feel for with consistent fade and sink. Has a very loose arm action, balance and is very direct. He projects best on the mound at the present time. At the plate, has bat speed and when centered, balls comes off well. Would like to see him maximize his lower half. David is athletic and will be able to be a two-way player at the next level.
07/29/2008 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament - 2008
David improved his 60-time, hitting grade, and velocity while at UA SW. In the OF, moved well laterally which allowed him to cover lot of ground and get behind fly balls. Played aggressively thru ball and showed accurate throws. Tilted his head during throw which made him fall off after throw and lose direction. At the plate, showed balance stance with some bat speed. Had good finish which allowed him to use all fields. When he kept hands inside ball, showed good path to hitting zone instead of sweeping around ball and flying open. Lower half explosion will improve when he keeps tall backside. On the mound, worked quick and attacked hitters. Had loose arm action with good upper half direction. Lower half direction and explosion will improve when he keeps front hip closed.
04/13/2008 - College PREP - Azusa, CA
David is a tall thin player and although he can also pitch with solid mechanics and a good feel for his off speed pitches, he is more suited for the OF at this point. In the OF, shows a strong accurate arm and gets rid of the ball quickly. Feet get into fielding position and play through the ball well. Crow hop needs improvement but he has a good idea of what he is doing in the field. At the plate, shows a quick short swing and uses the lower half well. Tends to become a little loopy with the swing and he hit some pop ups, but only occasionally. Delivery on the mound is sound with rhythm and balance. A good long toss program will help to increase arm strength. David has potential at the next level.
