01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament David continues to show as a solid MIF. Defensively, he has a quick exchange and is light on his feet. He can turn the DP and make strong throws. Offensively, he shows a good base and has a simple/quiet approach. He uses the middle of the field and can spray the ball gap-to-gap. If he can use more of his lower 1/2 he can create more pop off of his bat.

07/29/2011 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament - 2011 Mason showed strongly again, this time in tournament play. He has quick feet; again running an impressive 60 yard dash. Defensively, David continues to impress with smooth hands and a quick transfer / exchange. Increased arm strength will only benefit Mason. Offensively, he continues to show above average hitting and power numbers. He is direct to the ball and has the ability to spray to the gaps. He uses his lower 1/2 well and hits line-drives. He made good adjustments at the plate and had 4 hits during his time at the Southwest tournament. He is very coachable and is a hard worker. With continued work, David will get more and more looks to play at the next level.

05/15/2011 - College PREP - Salem, OR David is an athletic SS that will graduate in 2012. Foot speed is superior as indicated by his 60 time of 6.72. Feet are quick, active, and aggressive in attacking the baseball. He shows good pre-pitch setup and moves well laterally displaying range. Hands are soft, clean, and sure with a plus back hand that he is not afraid to use. He will benefit by presenting hands more down and out front. Arm action is quick and he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Throws display carry but needs to develop more consistency and carry. Offensively, Mason continues to shine through an athletic setup. He loads well and displays explosive hands to the baseball, generating plus bat speed. He shows a solid feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Hands work inside the ball as he utilizes all fields. David has a tremendous upside as he will get looks from the top collegiate programs.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
