04/25/2010 - College PREP - Fort Washington, PA David again showed strong, athletic abilities at the Fort Washington workout. He improved his fielding grade from 50 to 55. Defensively, he holds a quiet, low target with a firm wrist. David blocks the ball athletically, take appropriate angles, and he centers it well. He gains ground well and his throws are accurate with carry to his target. Defense can further improve if David can quicken his exchange from glove to hand. At the plate, David has good balance, quick hands, and a level swing. He makes good use of his lower 1/2, and with a shorter stroke hitting can get even better.

07/29/2009 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament - 2009 McInerney showed a lot of improvements in his abilities behind and at the plate. He threw his best pop time at 1.95, showing a means of 2.00 and will control the running game with his feet and arm at the next level. Receiving and blocking skills improved to well above average with both tools playing well at the next level. At the plate, hitting abilities and power have improved to above average. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. He was 4 for 12 at the event.

07/25/2009 - Team One North 2009 David continues to show steady improvement in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.10 and ran his best home to first at 4.47. His body shows a lot of strength in it and he utilizes his strength in his defensive play behind the plate. Pop times were in the 1.99-2.12 range as he showed life and carry on his throws with accuracy. At the plate, McInernery shows a solid feel for the barrel as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He was 1 for 5 with a line drive 1B.

05/10/2009 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD David is a young catcher with a wiry, athletic looking body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is above average and he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well through the catch and throw process in working in a direct line to target. Transfer and exchange is clean and efficient allowing his quick arm action to work. His throws display life, carry and accuracy into the target as indicated by his low pop time of 1.97 with a mean of 2.02. Arm strength is well above average as indicated by his top velocity of 84 mph at the arm strength station. Receiving and blocking skills are near above average through a solid set up. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process, centering all balls through proper angles to keep balls in front. At the plate, McInerney has solid average abilities with near above average power. Stance is square and shows balance throughout the swing. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed and he shows a solid feel for the barrel. Swing path gets uphill and he needs to work on staying on top of the baseball. With 2 years to further develop, David has the makings to be a solid catcher at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
