Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/3BPosition Projection

08/26/2012 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY David is an athletic, 2-way player with a strong lower 1/2. In the OF, David has firm hands, decent footwork, and a controlled approach. He makes plays, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a long arm action with some accuracy to his target. Working behind the ball better and playing more through will help OF abilities improve. At 3B, David has playable hands and feet and he keeps the ball in front. He has a long / loose arm action with some carry across the diamond. Playing lower, fielding more out in front, and finishing his throws will help improve INF skills. At the plate, David has a square set-up, good balance, and his swing is level. He can spray to all fields and gets some extension through the ball. Quicker bat-speed and better separation can improve hitting.

08/02/2011 - Vero Beach Pro Select Training and Competition - 2011 David is an athletic, strong bodied OF who graduates in 2013. He has improved across the board since we saw him initially a couple of years ago. Defensively, Mosler does well in getting behind balls, playing through, and making accurate throws with carry to his target. If he can quicken his exchange and take a smaller crow hop, OF defensive grades will improve. At the plate, David displays good balance, solid bat speed, and a level swing path. He tracks the ball in well and has good hand/eye coordination. To improve hitting grades, Mosler needs to get a better load, develop more rhythm, and create extension through the swing. During the event, he worked on getting into a more athletic stance which will help him as well. David showed that he wants to get better. He constantly asks questions and will work to improve as he is very coachable.

08/23/2009 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY David is a young, 2013 graduate that shows in the OF with an average frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is below average and he needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active but needs to work on taking better routes and angles in working to get behind balls to play through with momentum to his target. He utilizes two hands well in catching the baseball. Arm strength is currently below average and he would benefit from getting on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry on throws. At the plate, he tracks the ball well and works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. He has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving with instruction and adjustments at the plate. With 4 years to further develop, Mosler has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
