11/12/2011 - Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Pre-High School) Even though David is smaller, he creates an outstanding amount of power for his size when he uses his lower half to initiate his swing. David will need to get into a wider stance to allow himself to get into a stronger and more athletic position to start his swing. Also David has the tendency to start his swing before his front foot is down, and lands on an open front foot causing his hips to open to early in his swing. Even though David displays good use of his hips and lower half, he tends to lunge onto his front foot, so he will need to focus on keeping more balance between his front and back leg during the stride and swing. Also David has the tendency to not finish his swing, even though he made huge improvements during the weekend on this issue, he will need to continue on not only hitting behind the baseball but remember to drive the barrel through the baseball.

10/23/2011 - Interactive Video Program - Hightstown, NJ David is a young, SS who switch hits. Defensively, David has quick feet, soft / sure hands, and he moves well laterally. He is aggressive to the ball, keeps it in front, and his exchange is quick and clean. David has a long / loose arm action, and he throws with accuracy and consistency to his target. At the plate, David is currently better from the right side. He has an athletic set-up, good barrel accuracy, and he can hit to all fields. David swings in good rhythm from the right, his swing is level, and he uses his lower 1/2. From the left side, David has a short / rhythmic swing and good balance. Abilities from both sides can improve with a loose grip, more direct hands to the ball, and with more extension through.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
