Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

12/20/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City David has worked hard and molded himself into quite a prospect. His lightning fast speed (6.86 60 yard dash) allows him to track down almost any ball hit into the OF. He is aggressive, he takes good reads, and he plays through the ball well with athletic actions. As a hitter, he delivers the barrel with plus bat speed, driving it to all parts of the field. He will be a top of the line-up type of guy thanks to his ability to consistently put the barrel on the ball and get out the box quickly. David also threw a few innings. FB tops out at 81 mph and shows some arm-side run. He shows a strong mound presence and attacks hitters. He works quickly to keep hitters off balance. Overall - Strout is a speedy lefty who will make an impact this upcoming (junior) season.

10/06/2013 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ David is a lean, athletic OF that will graduate in 2015. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.91 60 time. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind, playing through with momentum to his target through an aggressive approach. Lateral movement is a plus, reads balls well off the bat, and covers a lot of ground, displaying range. Throws are accurate with carry but needs to work to get rid of the baseball quicker and build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Strout shows an open setup with balance. Hands are quick and work through a simple / level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. With 2 years to further develop, David has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
