08/11/2010 - Pirate City World Series 2010 - Session 2
Sweeting showed as a RHP and OF at Pirate City. Watching him pitch in games, he showed a repeatable delivery which allows him to work fast and efficient. He has direct and clean mechanics and works efficiently around the zone. His front foot is stiff at times causing him to land a little hard, so this is an area he needs to work on correcting. His fastball at Pirate City sat comfortably at 78-80 mph and he showed effective offspeed pitches during the games. As an outfielder, Sweeting continues to show a very strong and playable arm. He has good body control and works through the baseball. As a switch hitter, he is short from both sides with a good bat path, but he needs to make sure his hands stay back and he does not dive at the baseball or work uphill. He has above average athleticism and is an aggressive player who is coachable. He would make a good addition to a college program as a pitcher and outfielder.
05/23/2010 - College PREP - Tampa, FL
David is a lean, switch hitting athlete that plays OF and RHP. He currently projects better on the mound than in the OF, but still has time to improve at both. On the mound, David has good balance, tempo, and direction toward the plate. He has a quick arm and can get his FB up into the mid 80's. His CB and CH are above average pitches and compliment his FB well. If David can finish off his pitches and tap into more lower 1/2, abilities on the mound can improve. In the OF, David works behind the ball and plays through it well. He uses hops and gets rid of the ball quickly and accurately to his target. More momentum and throwing on a downhill plane will help defensive grades further improve. At the plate, David is about equal from both sides of the plate. He has a good set-up from both sides and pretty good bat speed. He has some life in his barrel, but will need to let the ball travel deeper, transfer his weight more properly, and use more lower 1/2.
