Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

08/02/2020 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) David is a projectable (6'1"/165) 2-way player (OF/RHP) who showed well during his time at Pirate City. With the bat, this RHH displays a tall/athletic setup with centered balance. Quick/loose hands whip the barrel to and through the zone as he engages his lower 1/2 well and drives the ball on a line (going 4 for 8 with 3 singles and a triple). In the OF, he has active prep with a quick first step tracking down fly-balls to his right and left. He secures the ball with 2-hands, has a clean transfer and fires accurate throws into his target. On the mound, David throws a FB & CB from an over-the-top arm slot and loose/free arm action. He gets good glove-side lead and drives downhill toward the dish. FB still sits in the upper 70's showing good movement (run & sink). Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with tight spin and good depth. He attacks the zone and mixes his pitches well. Sykora is a coachable player who can make adjustments quickly. He is a skilled 2-way prospect who has upside as he enters his senior year.

02/16/2020 - College PREP - Lake Zurich (Chicago), IL David is a tall RHP/OF prospect who will graduate in 2021. On the mound, David gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a quick arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. David shows a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78mph. Breaking ball sits from 62-64mph with late 11-5 break. Cutter sits at 68mph. Changeup sits from 62-67mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Long tossing to build up his arm strength can help David improve as a pitcher. In the field, David shows efficient footwork and covers ground well. He makes the routine plays and keeps his throws accurate and on-line to his target. David can improve defensively by getting into a lower fielding position. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He gets back into his load and takes a direct swing, leading to consistent line drives. Working a smoother rhythm into his load can help David improve as a hitter. Overall, David is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
