Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

11/08/2018 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Dawson continues to show improvement in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most through a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but needs to play through more with his body. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 50-53 mph. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength and develop off speed stuff will aid in improving abilities on the mound.

07/15/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Fargo, ND Dawson is a young, 2-way player who plays 1B and RHP. Defensively, Dawson has efficient footwork, firm hands, and he fields in a square position. He centers the ball well, has a clean exchange, and throws with consistency from a loose arm action. On the mound, Dawson has a simple delivery, he gets good pivot off his back foot, and solid glove side lead at times. He separates on time and is around the zone with his pitches. Offensively, Dawson has a square set-up, he loads well, and swings aggressively. He puts the bat on the ball and can spray to all fields. Dawson can improve overall skills with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
