Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1BPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Dawson continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he has improved the most. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work to and through an aggressive swing path, creating extension. He has loose levers and strength in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. He works to stay inside the ball and has hidden pop to all fields. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / clean and presents well out front. With 3 years to further develop, Dawson has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Dawson is a solid 3B that also pitches. In the infield he fields with soft hands, has quick feet, and good range. He uses the proper footwork with his approach and stays under control with his body. His exchange is quick and he makes accurate throws across the diamond with good life. On the mound Dawson has a solid 3 pitch mix showing a fastball with good arm side run, a curve that needs to continue to develop, and a change up that has good run/ sink. He works quick and stays composed on the mound at all times with a good presence. At the plate he has a closed stance, smooth load, and above average bat speed. He has a level swing and delivers the barrel with good accuracy. Dawson has a lot of power potential if he continues to use his lower half and will be fun to watch as he adds more strength.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
