07/31/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Southwest Championships 18U Participant Great movement behind the plate, great blocking with plus arm

07/29/2014 - Under Armour Southwest Championships, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Dean continues to shine on the diamond. Behind the dish, this backstop takes charge and is a leader on field. He hustles all over the field and his energy rubs off on his teammates. With the bat, he stands in athletically with fluid rhythm. He is aggressive and is looking to hit when he steps into the box. He has pop off of his barrel and can drive the ball to all fields. Behind the dish, he works quickly around pitches in the dirt and centers them. He is a natural defender - Dean makes things happen on the diamond.

06/17/2014 - USA Baseball 17U Championships Angelo continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with the makings of a solid player at the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date but will benefit by continuing to increase foot quickness. He has an outstanding arm and works to get rid of the baseball quickly as he will control the running game with his catch / throw abilities. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, power grade has improved as well. He utilizes his strong lower half well and has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off his bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. At the event, he was 3 for 12. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a leader behind the plate and communicates well. He is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

08/05/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Dean demonstrated a good work ethic and he is very coachable. During his time at Pirate City, he showed a smooth swing. At the plate, he displays an open stance and solid load. He is patient and has a good feel for the strike zone. He puts the ball in play consistently as he went an impressive 6 for 9 (6 singles). Defensively, he works hard behind the plate. He moves well laterally and shows good mechanics, centering the ball off of his chest. He has a clean exchange and makes accurate throws to 2B. Continuing to increase his arm strength will help to lower pop times. Angelo brings his positive attitude to the ballpark and will continue to get better over the next couple of years.

07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Vero Beach (Ages 14-18) Dean is a young, athletic C/3B that will graduate in 2015. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show in the 1.96-2.13 range with accuracy on his throw. Throws show accuracy, life, and on line carry into his target as he displays outstanding arm strength. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools as he continues to improve. At 3B, feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. He needs to play through balls more while presenting hands more out front, and improve foot quickness to improve defensive grade. At the plate, Angelo shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are loose to and through a level swing path, creating extension. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker with a great attitude. With 2 years to further develop, Dean has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
