07/11/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One South Deano is a hard hitting OF that has a strong frame and good athleticism (7.26 sixty). Offensively, he takes a hack after getting to a strong hitting position with activated hands. He generates plus bat speed and is controlled with the barrel down to contact. The ball comes off the bat well and he is loose with his actions. Defensively, he makes plays and has a quick release, at times, with some carry to his throws. Increase defensive ability all around will help to make him a more projectable player. Overall - Deano is a hard hitting lefty that is very intriguing with his plus pop and offensive prowess.

01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Looney has a stocky, strong build at 5-foot-9 and 195 pounds. He stands out for his pure ability to impact the ball. His exit velocity of 102.0 mph was good for first place in the Easton Hit Lab, while his bat speed and raw power were among tops at the event as well. As you'd expect, he makes an aggressive and full hack - though his move is coordinated and balanced through contact. He runs better down the line (4.43 from the left side) than in the 60, and defensively he is best suited for LF.

07/29/2013 - College PREP - Gaffney, SC Deano is a solid, thick OF that will graduate in 2016. At the plate is where Looney shows best, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with near prop level power. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered as he will hit and hit with power at the next level. In the OF, he utilizes his athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to work to get behind balls more, playing through with momentum to his target and improve foot quickness. Arm strength is well above average with throws displaying life, accuracy, and on line carry to his target. With 3 years to further develop, Deano has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
