At 2B, he comes to get the GB and hustles into a square fielding position. He gathers well and makes accurate DP feeds and throws to 1B. Continuing to develop his footwork & agility will help to increase lateral range in the INF. With the bat, this righty shows an athletic stance with centered balance. He lets the ball travel into the hitting zone, squares the ball up and looks to drive the middle of the field. More hand separation on his load along with more lower 1/2 drive will help to increase pop off of the barrel. Despain has a solid all-around skill-set with still a ton of time to progress and physically mature (get stronger).

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
