09/13/2015 - College PREP - La Verne (Los Angeles), CA Dejuan is a tall, athletic RHP/1B that will graduate in 2016 with a promising future on the diamond. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 7.07 60 time. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in his lateral movements, displaying range. Footwork around the bag is outstanding and he is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and displaying gap to gap power as he shows plus barrel accuracy. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 79-81 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with cutting action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level as he continues to improve. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to throw more strikes. Dejuan has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
