09/15/2012 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Dennis is a strong kid, with quick hands which allows him to display good power at times. Dennis made some very good adjustments over the weekend, one being his hand placement. The main thing we worked on all weekend with Dennis was getting hands back in his stance; he tends to start his hands to close to his neck. This doesn't allow him to create any separation, and loses a lot of power because of it. What we did was put the bat on the back shoulder to create the separation before the swing starts; he did a good job with the adjustment and ran with it. Dennis does a good job of using the lower half during the swing, but he needs to focus on finishing the upper body during the swing. He doesn't allow his top hand to extend thru the baseball, which takes away from his power. If he is able to create the separation with his hands, also allow his top hand to drive thru the baseball and combine that with his natural strength, Dennis should be able to display very good power form the left side.
