10/12/2011 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic - 2011 Denton performed very well against top competition at the Arizona Senior Fall Classic both at SS and on the mound. Defensively, he gets good jumps, has quick feet and takes good angles leading to excellent range. His hands are soft and sure and he has a quick exchange and accurate arm with carry. At the plate Denton has a compact level stroke leading to hard line drives and ground balls. This approach pressures the defense as does his aggressive and instinctual baserunning. As a pitcher Denton had two quality outings in which he pounded the zone with his fastball that he runs up to 85mph. He complements that with a big breaking curve. Overall, Denton is an athletic young man that plays the game extremely hard every pitch. He will definitely help a team at the next level in the infield and may even contribute out of the bullpen depending on the situation.

08/10/2011 - Pirate City World Series 2011 - Session 2 Denton showed improvement in his running speed, fielding ability and hitting evaluation. His 60 yard dash time improved to 6.87 down from 7.14. His fielding ability grade went from 45-48 and his hitting ability graded out to 48 up from 45. He continues to be a hard worker with good makeup. He also pitched in this event and showed a repeatable delivery with good temp and command. He throws his FB in the 77-83 mph range with movement at times and has a SL to go with it. A few areas to continue to work on are more reps with groundballs to his backhand side and a long toss program to continue to build arm strength. He will be a solid player at the next level.

04/17/2011 - College PREP - Cedar Hill (DFW), TX Denton is a young, athletic SS who will graduate in 2012. In the INF, Denton has quick feet, sure hands, and good range to the glove side. He takes good angles to the ball, and he fields it cleanly, in a square / athletic position. Denton has a quick / clean exchange, and he throws accurately with life from a short / quick arm action. Solid defensive grades can get better with a less noisy glove and better balance turning the double play. At the plate, Denton has a tall / open stance, a proper load, and good balance. He has fast bat speed, a good bat angle, and he makes consistent contact. Denton gets proper separation, he swings in good rhythm, and he has a line drive approach. If Denton can improve driving the pitch away, we could see offensive numbers spike.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
