07/11/2016 - College PREP - Anchorage, AK Derek is an athletic, smooth fielding second basemen that is fundamentally sound with excellent body control to make every play in the field. He has a quick first step and very impressive footwork overall. Derek presents his soft glove receiving and gains momentum to his target on his release. He plays with a strong arm that plays well with his smooth double play exchange. Offensively, Derek displays above average bat speed and consistently barreled up the baseball. He starts square with good balance and is consistently on time taking a direct path through the zone gaining extension at contact. Derek will fit nicely into a program at the next level with his strength at the plate and athleticism in the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
