06/29/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Derek is a true talent who is fun to watch. A left handed hitter who stands in with a solid, strong base and displays fluid rhythm into his load. He posses tremendous power, crushing the ball to the deep parts of the park (exit velocity = 94 mph). In the OF not many balls get down that are hit his way. Hi transfer exchange is smooth as he zips throws on a line through his target. He has the versatility to play all 3 OF spots effectively. Derek has a ton of potential and will get looks from the top collegiate coaches with his playing abilities.

04/12/2015 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Derek is a lean, athletic OF that will graduate in 2017 with a promising future on the diamond. Defensive grade in the OF are outstanding as he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. Reads are outstanding and he covers a lot of ground, displaying range in the OF. Throws are accurate, with on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed and work through a level swing path and aggressive approach. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields, displaying gap to gap pop. With 2 years to further develop, Derek has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
