07/28/2021 - Baseball Factory Southwest Championships 17U Derek is a coachable RHP/OF prospect who showed well during the Southwest Championships. On the mound, Derek gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and accelerates through his release, finishing square to his target. Derek operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 79mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 64-65mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 68-70mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. In the field, Derek shows quick footwork and moves well laterally. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. His exchange is clean and he gets rid of the ball quickly, making accurate throws with carry through his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He gets his hands activated in his load and hits against a strong front side. He generates fast bat speed through the zone and drives the ball from gap to gap. Overall, Derek is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

05/31/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Sacramento, CA Derek is an athletic RHP/OF who has a tremendous future on the diamond. In the OF not many balls get down that are hit his way. He has the versatility to play all 3 OF spots effectively. Throws are accurate with on line zip (86 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, he continues to shine. He stands in with a solid/strong base and has fluid rhythm to load. Hands work inside the ball utilizing all fields with gap to gap. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 74-79 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with downward break. Slider is harder with tight spin and short / sharp break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Derek has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
