04/10/2022 - All-In Membership - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Derrick is a SS/RHP out of Catonsville, MD in the class of 2023. In the infield, he had very quick feet with great range. He worked to and through the ball in a low athletic fielding position. He made the routine plays and showed consistent feeds and throws to his targets. At the plate, he used a low athletic stance with smooth timing to work to a firm front side on the swing. He delivered the barrel directly to the ball which enabled quick hands with square solid contact. On the mound, he worked a 3 pitch mix of fastball, curveball and slider. His fastball topped out at 72 mph with run while his off speed was around 60-64 mph with decent break/action. Derrick is an athletic prospect who will continue to develop his game over the next few years.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
