Official Scouting Report

  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

02/05/2017 - College PREP - Mobile, AL Destin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.94. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying solid hitting abilities with outstanding power potential. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. At SS, feet are active / aggressive as he moves well laterally, displaying range in the MIF. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 82 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Destin is a hard working 2018 grad that projects as a SS/RHP. Defensively, Destin works to the ball with efficient feet and fields it clean with a sure glove hand. He shows plus backhand range on balls in the hole. His abilities will improve by fielding out in front and using his lower half to follow his throws. On the bump, Destin works to the plate with a hi 3/4 arm slot and some command. He keeps his eyes on the target and works hard to make adjustments during his outings. As he develops more of a feel for the position, his pitches, and starts to use his lower 1/2, his stock in any rotation will improve. Offensively, Destin hits from a square stance with a quiet approach. He battles at the plate, working deep counts and barreling up a pitch to hit to put the pressure on the defense. His simple, compact swing gives him consistency at the plate but his abilities will take the jump further when he gets rhythm in his hands and keeps his front side closed. In all, Destin is an aggressive base runner with a positive mental approach.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
