Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

08/18/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Trenton, NJ Devin has worked hard and progressed nicely in his game. Offensively, he has a balanced approach with patience in the box. Hands are quick as he jumps on pitches he likes. He connects with strength, extends through the ball and has power to all parts of the field. At 1B, Devin is a big target and can get to almost anything thrown his way. He makes the backhand play smoothly and is sure handed. On the bump, this righty reaches back and fires. Arm works loosely as he repeats well. FB shows slight arm-side run as he throws it for strikes. Breaking ball has 'slider' like action with 10/4 shape. Working to stay on top of his pitches and drive downhill will help to improve effectiveness on the bump. Only a 2018 grad - Devin is a well-rounded 2-way player who can make things happen with the bat.

08/14/2014 - National Tryout - Trenton, NJ Devin is a switch hitting 2-way player (RHP/1B). On the bump, his arm works loose & easy as he drives off the rubber in-line toward the plate. He pounds the zone and throws strikes with all 3 pitches. At 1B, Devin works low from the ground-up and fields the ball cleanly. He has a soft mitt and gathers well. With the bat, he shows a patient approach as he lets the ball travel into the zone. He connects and uses the whole field. A young 2018 grad - Devin has a lot of time to develop his skills.

11/14/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Devin is a two-way player who projects best on the mound. Defensively, Devin makes the routine play and shows good footwork around the bag. He will need to work on his fielding position making sure he stays low. On the mound, he showed a strong pitchers body with good rhythm and tempo to his delivery. Devin can improve by focusing on having better glove side lead, his shoulders tend to spin off target. If he can stay in line to his target he will be able to finish his pitches with more accuracy and velocity. Offensively, he showed consistent contact with power potential. He reaches a strong load but can work on delivering the barrel with more top hand. Overall, Devin is a player who shows a lot of potential as he continues to focus on some fundamental areas of his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
