Official Scouting Report

06/08/2014 - College PREP - Troy (Detroit), MI Devin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying well above average hitting / power numbers well through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and aggressive and work through a level swing path. He tracks the ball well and makes consistent contact, as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows plus barrel accuracy. At SS, defensive grade has improved as well as he displays clean / athletic actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he moves well laterally displaying range in the MIF. Hands are clean as he presents well out front but needs to play through balls more to continue to improve defensive grade. On the mound, he showed his best velocity to date, topping out at 81 mph. Fastball showed a range of 79-81 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup showing an outstanding feel for. Off speed stuff showing as tremendous pitches that will get outs at the next level. Control is a excellent as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained.

06/10/2013 - College PREP - Troy, MI Devin is a 2-way player who play SS and RHP. Defensively, Devin has sure hand, active feet, and he works around the ball well. He takes good angles, makes plays, and he throws with a loose arm and consistency to his target. Added arm strength can help INF get better. On the mound, Devin has a long / easy arm action, a controlled balance point, and on-time separation. He has level shoulders, good direction toward home, and he finishes completely. More momentum toward home and not slowing arm speed on off-speed will improve mound effectiveness. At the plate, Devin has an athletic set-up, quiet actions, and he swings in good rhythm. He has fast bat speed, he finds the barrel, and he get proper extension through. More load and added strength will only spike hitting grades.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
