02/12/2021 - Baseball Factory Opening Day Classic (HS - East) Devin is a hard-working and engaged 2B that continues to grow and develop. At 2B, Devin shows good instinct to the ball off the bat with athletic footwork. He can improve his range by continuing to get faster. He fields the ball low and square with confidence and makes clean exchanges. Devin keeps momentum to his target and gets rid of the ball quickly delivering the throw with accuracy to the target. Hitting, Devin sets up in a square stance with a loose and comfortable load. He shows good timing getting your foot down on time and rotates well to deliver a smooth and on plane swing. His approach is solid by being aggressive on good pitches. Devin has continually showed improvement from event to event, and we look forward to seeing his continued growth.

01/08/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season Prospects Tournament (HS) Devin is an athletic SS/OF in the 2023 class with a great skill set. He has a high baseball IQ and is a scrappy/hard-working player who is a lot of fun to watch. At SS, he starts in an athletic position and uses efficient/smooth footwork to react to GB's hit to his right and left. He presents his glove out in front attacking the ball in a low/athletic fielding position while using a clean exchange. He creates momentum into a quick release throwing the ball accurately across the diamond. A long toss program will be beneficial to aid in increasing his arm strength. He shows well at the plate, as this righty takes the box in a balanced/athletic stance. A smooth/on-plane swing path makes him a tough out as he battles and works the count. Devin has a simple approach, spraying the ball back up the middle of the field. Only a 2023 grad, Devin has time to grow and will be an exciting player to follow as he progresses.

12/27/2020 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Devin is an athletic OF/2B that shows the potential to be a guy that can play multiple positions. At 2B, Devin shows an athletic ready position allowing him to field the ball low presenting a strong glove to field. He creates good momentum towards his target as he exchanges the ball. His arm works from the 3/4 arm slot delivering the ball to the target with accuracy. Devin also shows grit when he plays the field laying out for balls as he plays an aggressive defense. At the plate, he shows an open stance with comfortable hands. His stride is on time and controlled as he fires his lower half through. Devin gets the barrel on plane extending through impact allowing him to make consistent contact to all fields. In game, he showed patience at the plate finding pitches he could drive. Devin has continued to make strides as a baseball player and we are excited to see his potential.

08/20/2020 - Summer Pro Training Experience - NY (HS) Devin continues to shine on the diamond. In the OF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. At 2B, feet are aggressive as he attacks ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach.

07/06/2020 - National Evaluation and Tryout - New Britain (Hartford), CT Devin is a R/R 2B who graduates in 2023. Defensively, he displays active footwork and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He tracks the ball into a soft mitt, gathers well and has a clean transfer to throw. DP feeds and turns are smooth with quick footwork around the 2B bag. As a hitter, he shows an athletic setup with centered balance and a solid bae. He takes a hack with intent, looking to drive the ball. He squares the ball up and shows some pop to his pull-side. Letting the ball travel deeper into the zone while working to create more extension through contact will help to improve skills at the plate. Ryan has tools with still time to develop and physically mature.

02/22/2020 - Baseball Factory Mid-Atlantic Offensive Skills Weekend - Columbia, MD (Ages 14-18) Devin continues to work on and develop his skills. He keeps his head quiet, tracks pitches into the zone and waits for one he likes. He squares the ball up, swings against a firm front side and looks to drive the middle of the field (exit velocity now of 71 mph). Devin needs to work on striding square as he tends to start closed and stride closed. As he works to stride more square, it will allow him to engage his lower 1/2 more resulting in even more pop off of the barrel. This 2023 grad is a hard worker who will only continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
