Official Scouting Report

09/04/2016 - College PREP - Livonia, MI Devon continues to show improvements in his baseball tools and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.26. Feet work in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter and has improved his abilities from both sides. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball and has strength in his swing with gap to gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-71 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in developing stock on the mound.

09/20/2015 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Devon continues to work hard on his skills. Offensively, this righty shows a balanced setup with patience, waiting for his pitch. He whips the barrel on a direct path and connects with strength. He hits the ball where it's pitched and uses the entire field. Increased power will come with more extension through contact. Behind the dish, Devon sits in well and sticks pitches in the zone. Throws down to 2B are accurate as he gains ground and replaces his feet well. Continuing to develop his footwork/agility will not only increase he lateral range but will help to lower pop times. Doughty is a projectable backstop who (2017 grad) still has time to work on and develop his tools to get to where he wants to be.

07/14/2015 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 2 Devon is a 6'1/175 lbs switch hitting C that will graduate in 2017. Behind the dish, he tracked the ball into the zone and received with a sure glove. He was quiet in his setup and was accurate to make his throws down to 2B, in the 2.3 range. He worked to keep his legs under him while not over-striding, and worked to pick up his tempo to continue success as the game speeds up. Offensively he showed similar ability from both sides of the plate, with most feel from the right side. He was aggressive from both sides and worked hard in the middle of the field with his approaches. He could be more coordinated with his body from the left side, and needs to stay through the ball from the right side with both hands on the bat. Devon jumped on the bump to compete as well, throwing a FB and a Cutter. He had good athleticism, gathered over the rubber and pounded the zone. More arm strength and feel for other pitches will make him more effective. In all - Devon is an intriguing switch hitter that has some present ability to add strength to for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
