08/02/2020 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Devon is an athletic/coachable MIF who worked hard on his skills during his time at Pirate City. Defensively, he has quick/active prep and moves lightly on the balls of his feet right to left on his approach to the GB. Hands are presented out in front as he tracks GB's into a soft mitt and gathers well. Release is quick with accuracy on his throws. As a hitter, this leadoff type has speed (60 yard = 6.90) and a knack for putting the ball in play. He looks for his pitch, whips the barrel to and through the zone and hits the ball where it's pitched, spraying it to all parts of the field. He barrels the ball up and gets out of the box and down the 1B line quickly, putting pressure on the defense. Smith is a solid MIF who has the tools that will provide success.

College PREP - Plainview (Lubbock), TX Devon is a 2B who will graduate in 2020. Defensively, Devon has fluid/active feet, a presentable glove, and he fields in a square/athletic position. He has a good 1st step, a good glove angle to the ball, and his exchange is quick; throwing with accuracy from a short arm to his target. Added arm strength and not rushing can help improve solid defensive skills. Offensively, Devon has a tall/square stance, good balance, and a rhythmic swing. He keeps a still head, hits line drives, and works the ball well gap to gap. Hitting will get even better with more separation. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Devon.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
