01/18/2013 - Arizona National Spring Training Devyn is a young catcher (2016 graduate) with a lot of potential both behind the dish and at the plate. As a catcher Devyn receives the ball cleanly and softly. He has good sway and lets the ball travel. His fielding position is solid, low and square. This setup allows him to block the ball well. Devyn has playable footwork and throws with short arm action from a high 3/4 arm slot. He could improve the accuracy and power in his throws by staying low, on line, gaining ground, and remaining balanced throughout the throwing motion. He would also benefit from a long toss program and smoothing out his arm action. At the plate Devyn is balanced, athletic and uses his lower half well. He loads well with a short stride. Devyn has a short, level swing that leads to a contact approach with power potential as he gets stronger. As a 2016 graduate Devyn has time to get stronger, work on his footwork/foot-speed and continue to refine his mechanics. With this continued work Devyn could be a potential impact catcher offensive and defensively.
