10/02/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Diego is an athletic 2B/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the diamond. In the field, Diego shows quick footwork and moves well laterally. He gets into a low position and fields with a firm glove. His exchange is clean and he gets rid of the ball quickly, making accurate/on-line throws to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance with center balance. He gets into his load and hits against a strong front side. He generates fast bat speed though the zone and drives the ball from gap to gap. On the mound, Diego gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a quick arm and extends through his release, staying inline toward the plate. Diego operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 81mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 65-66mph with late 11-5 break. Changeup sits at 69mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Overall, Diego is a talented prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

10/17/2020 - Fall Pro Training Experience - Nor Cal (HS) Diego continues to show to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 2B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 1 for 3. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 67 mph. Fastball showed a range of 62-67 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays hard on the field.

12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory West Coast Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Diego is an athletic and talented 2-way prospect that worked hard all week. At the plate, Diego is a patent hitter and looks to drive the ball to all fields. He starts in a squared stance, he loads his hands back, and hits off a firm front side. At 2B, Diego starts in an athletic stance, he presents a low/early glove, and works from the ground up. He needs to continue to improve his first step and range to the ball. On the bump, Diego gathers over the rubber, he separates on time, and has a clean arm action. He commands his fastball and works down hill. Diego has a high baseball IQ and will continue to improve with experience.

06/19/2019 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series (Ages 12-14) Diego is a coachable RHP/2B prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Select Training at the College World Series. On the mound, Diego gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. Diego shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 63mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 52-53mph with 11-5 break. Maintaining arm speed on his breaking ball can help Diego improve as a pitcher. In the field, Diego starts in an athletic ready position and shows quick footwork. He gets into an athletic fielding position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a quick exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate to his target. Diego can improve defensively by increasing his lateral range. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a soft stride. He is controlled getting his hands activated and remains center with his lower half. He takes a compact swing with decent bat speed, leading to solid line drives. Working on his opposite field approach can help Diego improve as a hitter. With five more years to develop, Diego has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

07/06/2018 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Diego showed hard work, solid skills, and great hustle during his time in Cape Cod. He improved in many areas of his game. At 2B, Diego has active feet, soft hands, and he fields in a low/square position. He has good footwork to the ball, his exchange is quick, and he throws with accuracy and strength to his target. On the mound, Diego has a repeatable delivery, a clean arm action, and he rotates through toward his target. Offensively, Diego has a square/athletic set-up, he swings in good rhythm, and stands in well balanced. He has fast bat speed, a good swing path, and he makes square/consistent contact.

10/29/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Santa Rosa, CA Diego is a solid (2024 grad) 2B/RHP. Defensively at 2B, he takes a prep step and moves well with active footwork. He fields GB's in a square position and has a clean exchange to throw. On the mound, this RHP delivers from a 3/4 arm slot with loose arm action. He throws a CH that stays down in the zone and stays directional towards home plate. With the bat, Diego displays an athletic setup with smooth rhythm to load. His lower 1/2 stays strong as he whips his barrel quickly through the zone and drives pitches on a line with hard/solid contact. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
