07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Vero Beach (Ages 14-18) De Leon continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the plate, arm strength has improved as he threw his lowest pop time to date at 2.09. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show in the 2.09-2.20 range with accuracy on his throw. Throws show accuracy, and on line carry into his target. Receiving / blocking skills have improve and show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and plays hard. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball and utilizes all fields. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 3 for 8 with a 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker with a great attitude.

06/17/2013 - College PREP - Houston, TX Diego is a skilled catcher who has an athletic build. Behind the dish, he sits in well and shows good flexion. He displays a low target and surrounds balls in the dirt, centering them off of his chest. He has a quick/clean exchange and gets the ball down to 2nd base in as low as 2.27. Offensively, Diego displays patience and lets the ball travel into the zone. He creates good extension through contact and hits line-drives to all fields. Driving his backside lower 1/2 will help to increase his power potential. DeLeon has solid all-around abilities and should get some looks to advance his game to the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
