07/17/2018 - College PREP - Highland Park (DFW), TX Diego continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and is a prospect on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.86 runner. At the plate, power potential is now outstanding through a squared setup with balance. Hands are quick (88 mph exit velocity) and work to and through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At SS, feet are active and fluid as he attacks ball and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with throws showing zip (87 mph velocity) across the diamond. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground.

06/25/2016 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Diego is an athletic 2-way player (SS/RHP) who worked hard on his skills during his time in Omaha. He has a high baseball IQ and is always thinking one play ahead. In the MIF, he shows smooth/athletic actions and works fluidly from right to left around the GB. He has a quick transfer/release from glove to hand zipping the ball with carry across the diamond. As a hitter - Diego remains patient with rhythm to load (drawing 4 walks). He is aggressive and looks to jump on 1st pitch FB's. On the mound, this RHP throws strikes and attacks hitters. FB shows some arm-side run - 72-74 mph. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with good action. He has sound mechanics and repeats well. Johnson (2019 grad) has a ton of upside with a ton of time to progress and build overall strength.

04/10/2016 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Diego is a R/R MIF who has an athletic build. Defensively, he shows quick/active prep and moves well around the GB picking out the hops. He makes the backhand play smoothly and has a clean exchange to throw. As a hitter - this righty displays a balanced approach with patience as he waits for a pitch he can handle. He squares the ball up and looks to drive the middle of the field. More lower 1/2 drive along with more extension through contact will result in increased power. Only a 2019 grad - the future looks bright for Diego.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
