05/26/2014 - College PREP - Jupiter, FL Dominic showed similar abilities both behind the plate and offensively during his last workout in Jupiter, FL. He has a pro body behind the dish, displaying quick feet, soft / firm hands, and very good body control. Dominic blocks and receives very well, he has good lateral movements, and lowered his pop times to 1.81 with carry and good direction to 2nd base. More glove extension to the ball receiving, and a quicker transfer will only help very good defensive abilities further improve. Offensively, Dominic shows very good balance, strong hands, and plus bat speed. He swings in good rhythm, makes hard / solid contact, and gets good extension through the ball. If Dominic can let the ball travel deeper and avoid wrapping the bat some, hitting will continue to get better.

09/21/2013 - 2013 Under Armour Futures Series East - Jupiter, FL DiCaprio has a solid, strong build at 6-foot-0 and 205 pounds. He featured a well rounded set of tools, highlighted by raw power and arm strength. He posted a low pop time of 1.88 at this event, with other throws between 1.90 and 2.06. The ball left his hand with great life, and it carried through the bag very well. He sat well behind the plate and showed solid hands to receive, along with solid blocking skills. At the plate, he hit from an athletic crouch and turned his front knee and shoulder in to trigger his swing. His move was level through the zone, and he rotated his core well through to drive the ball. He made hard contact against quality pitching on both the inner and outer halves of the plate, both times the ball jumped off his bat.

01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament DiCaprio continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and the makings of a special type player at the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.10. Feet are quick / athletic as he gains ground and works in line to his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have really improved with times showing in the 1.80-1.99 range with life, accuracy and on line carry through his target. His 1.80 was the fastest time posted during the entire event. He will control the running game with his feet and arm. Receiving / blocking skills show as superior tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, generating outstanding bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off his bat and he displays plus barrel accuracy. He will hit and hit with power at the next level. At the event, he was 2 for 5.

11/11/2012 - College PREP - Davie, FL Dominic is an athletic, talented catcher who will graduate in 2015. His athletic indicators are great, as he posted a 1.97 pop time, 86 mph arm strength, and 7.28 60 yard dash. Behind the plate, Dominic has sure hands, active feet, and he works around the ball well. He has smooth actions, blocks and receives well, and he throws with a lot of life to his target. More chin tuck and not recoiling on his throws will help well above average defensive abilities get even better. At the plate, Dominic has a square set-up, a short stride, and good balance. He has impressive bat speed, he makes hard contact, and he gets his lower 1/2 through, allowing him to generate power. He is a special player right now and will continue to impress college coaches as he gets older. With three years of high school baseball remaining, he is a player to watch.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
