06/15/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Dominic continues to work hard, make adjustments and get better. Defensively, He flat out makes plays, not always the prettiest but always effective as he hustles to the ball before making accurate throws. He will benefit from working to better understand the different positions that a SS has to be in throughout the course of a game based off of game situation and continuing to work on improving his glove position to be out front with fingers down.On the bump, Dominic did a nice job of competing in the strike zone and pitching to contact. He will benefit from using his lower half more aggressively, speeding up his delivery and committing to one arm slot that he can properly develop. At the plate, Dominic has made improvements to his bat speed, bat path and is still doing a great job of getting to a good hitting position in his launch phase. An aggressive hitter, he makes hard contact and should continue to work on keeping his top hand through with a relaxed grip and a quiet, still head to improve tracking. Overall, Dominic plays the game hard, has consistently gotten better and should continue to work the drill package covered at camp to further develop his game in the right direction.

04/14/2013 - College PREP - Albuquerque, NM Montano has a thin, athletic build at 5-foot-8 and 155 pounds. He ran 4.43 down the line from the right side, a better indication of his speed than his 7.62 in the 60. Defensively, his feet were quick and his hands sure. He reached an athletic fielding position down low with the ball, and did a good job of getting rid of the ball quickly. Double play turns were clean, and double play turns were solid as well. Showed athletic ability and body control on slow roller play. At the plate, he hit from a square setup and did a good job of getting his hands back while taking a short stride. Lower half rotated well through, and his path was level. Line drive type hitter with some rhythm to hit. Can work to get his shoulders out of his swing to help improve quickness and extension, but overall a solid hitter.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
