Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Don continues to show a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. Throws display life, accuracy and on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate he continues shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through a short / direct / level swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing with leverage as the baseball explodes off the bat when centered as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. On the mound, he displays a sound / repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 80-83 mph with slight arm side run. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. He shows good composure and competes on the mound. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/14/2016 - Under Armour Fall Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Don is an ultra competitive RHP/OF that will graduate in the spring of 2017. On the mound, he had a controlled delivery and was consistent to get his body balanced to repeat his delivery. His arm action was loose and he got good extension out over the front side. He jumped right out to challenge hitters early in his first outing, and worked efficiently throwing three ground ball outs. Defensively, he showed good versatility in playing OF and INF. He was able to make plays with some ease and had good in-game feel / instincts. Don really excelled with the stick during his most recent time with us. He consistently barreled balls up and flashed plus pop with an exit velocity of 86. It seemed that he was constantly making loud contact and would make small adjustments on his own to battle pitchers. In all - Don is a very interesting follow that hit 87 for his raw velo, after a long summer, and can hit and hit for pop. We see him working himself into a teams rotation, or into the lineup if that bat continues to play as we saw at the UA Fall Classic.

05/15/2016 - College PREP - Bowie, MD At DiLoreto's most recent workout, he showed his best velocity to date with his FB touching 85 MPH. His arm action is clean and his delivery is smooth - which allows this athletic RHP to sit 81-85 MPH with some arm side run. He has good arm speed for a deceptive changeup with arm side fade. In the OF, he works around ball and gets his momentum working through his target allowing for online accuracy. This RHH is a line drive/contact type with quick hands and good barrel awareness. Don is a solid 2-way player who has a ton of upside.

02/13/2016 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Don continues to show improvements at another Baseball Factory event. At the Accelerated Training event, DiLoretto showed his best pop to date with balls jumping off the bat especially to the pull side. Don's lower half is more fully engaged at present which is developing more force behind the ball at impact. Don's approach is middle of the field and continuing to develop a looseness and fluidity to his rhythm and timing will allow for even more quickness to the ball by staying direct and extending through contact. A proven dedicated athlete, Don's stock will continue to rise.

08/03/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Don continues to show as an OF/RHP with steady progress in his baseball abilities. On the mound is where he has improved the most as he threw his top velocity to date, now showing solid arm strength at 81 mph. Fastball showed a range of 76-81 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with tailing action. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches at the next level. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls, displaying solid footwork. Hands are soft and clean as he utilizes two hands well through the catch process. At the plate, hands are loose as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he gets his stride foot down sooner to work on time. At the event, he was 1 for 4 with a 2B and 4 BB as he displays a solid eye and patient approach. Mental makeup is a plus as he works hard and is very coachable.

04/26/2015 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Don continues to as a RHP/OF with improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he works to get behind balls and he plays through with momentum to his target. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup and an aggressive approach. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and works through level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball and utilizes all fields. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will increase as he utilizes his lower half more aggressively and adds overall body strength. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity of 80 mph. Fastball showed a range of 77-80 mph with slight arm side run. Changeup is best off speed pitch, showing a feel for with arm side run. He throws a slider and breaking ball that resemble each other with 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes.

01/24/2015 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Don is a young ballplayer who shows potential at the plate, as he continues to show improvements. At the plate Don keeps it simple and quiet, with a good setup and limited movement. Don has the ability to use his entire body during the swing, maximizing his bat speed and power. He also shows good extension through contact, allowing him to drive the baseball when his timing is right. To take the next step as a hitter Don needs to prevent himself from diving over the plate when swinging, and continue to work on his contact points and driving the baseball to all fields.

07/30/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Don is a 2017 two-way player, RHP/OF that had consistent ability on all sides of the ball. Defensively, he worked around the ball and played through to throw. He had sure hands and fielded in front, but needs to work on his first step quickness. Offensively, he was disciplined at the plate and hit it where it was pitched. He had minimal head movement which allowed for barrel accuracy. On the mound, he throws 3 pitches after gathering over the rubber with balance. He needs to continue to improve his arm strength through a long toss program and should stay directional to deliver. Overall - Don is a great kid that listens and tries to make improvements to his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
