09/03/2021 - Baseball Factory's All-Region Tournament (HS) Don continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to square ball and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft but needs to present more out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate with carry across the diamond. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup. Hands are quick and works through an aggressive swing path, creating extension. Lower half works well through the swing and has strength in his swing with gap to gap pop. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-76 mph with tail. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength.

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) Don continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At 3B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying pro level power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (97 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach, flashing gap to gap pop. On the mound, his righty has a 2 pitch arsenal in which to keep hitters guessing. Fastball shows a range of 72-7 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break.

12/27/2019 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Don is a coachable 3B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic. In the field, Don gets into position on time and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a two-handed exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with life through his target. Taking a more efficient first step can help Don improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a wide stance and takes a soft stride. He is fluid getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He generates fast bat speed through the zone, leading to consistent contact and great gap to gap pop. Don can improve as a hitter by continuing to work on his contact points. On the mound, Don gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and finishes square to the plate. Don shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 76mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 64-66mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 68-70mph. Extending through his release more can help Don improve as a pitcher. Overall, Don is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

08/05/2019 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Don continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show at 3B for the first time at the event. At 3B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick (90 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and makes consistent hard contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 71 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Don is a coachable C/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Spring Training at Pirate City. Behind the plate, Don tracks the ball into his glove and gains momentum well on his throws. He moves well to block and tucks his chin. Making a cleaner exchange can help Don improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and gets his hands activated in his load. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact to his pull side. Don can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Don starts with a small rock step and gathers over the rubber. He stays inline towards the plate and works to keep his pitches around the zone. Don shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 69mph. Breaking ball sits from 56-59mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits at 63mph. Separating his hands earlier in his motion can help Don improve as a pitcher. With three more years to develop, Don has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

12/08/2018 - Mid-Atlantic Regional Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Ages 14-18) Don is an athletic and strong prospect that made several adjustments throughout the Mid Atlantic Hitting Weekend. At the plate, Don starts in an athletic stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and creates backside rotation with his lower half. He keeps his head down at contact and drives the ball to all fields. He needs to continue to create rhythm in his load and hunt the fastball. Don will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/04/2018 - College PREP - Vinton (Roanoke), VA Don is a solid, strong C/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he show best, displaying solid hitting abilities with well above average power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick / explosive (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a short / direct swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. Behind the dish, he utilizes his feet well in working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.31-2.47 with accuracy and zip (80 mph velocity) on his throws. Time will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He displays a soft glove and sticks balls well in the zone. He uses his body through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner to improve grade. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-70 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with early break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 4 years to further develop, Don has a lot of potential time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
