Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/CPosition Projection

02/15/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Lake Zurich (Chicago), IL Donald is a strong, athletic RHP/C who has a bright future on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. Quick lateral movements allow him to center/deaden pitches in the dirt off of a soft chest. Runners will not want to test his cannon for an arm (85 mph) with impressive pop times of 2.10. Offensively, he continues to shine with pro level hitting / power potential. He has athletic/smooth actions with fluid rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation and delivers the barrel with leverage, resulting in a barrel explosion (85 mph exit velocity) with the ball screaming off of his barrel. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 79-81 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for pitch with sink. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Command / control is well above average as he locates well to both sides of the plate. With 2 years to further develop, Donald has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Donald is a solid, athletic RHP/3B who has a promising future on the diamond. At 3B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he takes good first steps in attacking the baseball. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a compact swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 73-78 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength and develop off speed pitches will aid in improving abilities on the mound. With 3 years to further develop, Donald has a ton of potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
